Today,
almost every car owner in Britain knows about Hankook. This Korean
giant of a company is famous for their economic and high-quality car
tyres. However, what only a handful of car enthusiasts know is that
they are the official tyre supplier of the DTM series.
Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters
Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters
Deutsche Tourenwagen
Masters, or DTM, is a world-famous touring car series. It came from
Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft and is considered the world’s
most successful and one of the toughest touring car series. Hankook
has been their official tyre supplier since 2011. This year, they are
bringing a brand new line-up of tyres to cater to the ever-changing
needs of this thoroughly challenging race.
This new generation of
Hankook tyres is tailor-made to provide much higher traction on dry
tarmacs of the European racetracks. These tyres are retaining the
same dimension as their predecessors. Hankook named them Ventus Race
and viewed them as a solution to match the aggressive driving styles
of the drivers.
Unlike previous
generations, these tyres will wear out much more quickly when driven
aggressively. This was done to address the requests made by race
organisers and car manufacturers. When a driver starts driving
aggressively, the tyres wear out quickly, influencing the lap time by
a large margin. Hankook’s internal studies show that they can
increase it by several seconds which will force a driver to drive
more tactfully instead of just gunning for the finish line.
A brand new
generation of race car tyres
The Ventus Race
promises to make DTM much more exciting by presenting a unique
challenge to all drivers. Since 2017, they are not allowed to
pre-heat the tyres before a race. So, a racer has to reach that
narrow window to heat the tyres to an optimum temperature without
inducing much wear, while fighting for their position on the
racetrack. Also, they have to repeat the whole process when they stop
at a pit-stop. So, viewers should expect a breath-taking competition
both at the beginning and the middle of the race.
These changes are here
for only the dry tyres though. Rain tyres will see no alteration from
the ones used in the previous season.
Feedback from racers
Racers
from teams like Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz (along with many others)
have tried these tyres on the track. Almost everyone's opinion
converges on one crucial point; if handled well, these tyres become a
significant force multiplier out on the tarmac. Since the qualifying
rounds, these tyres are bringing some serious change in lap times.
Racers from every single team are looking forward to bring their best
while being armed with this new line of tyres. It promises to be
another exciting season for the racing enthusiasts around the world.
This
new tyres will also help prevent rash driving on Britain’s roads.
Hankook promised to bring this new technology to their road car
tyres, and very soon you will find these when you check out the
